about

"Sorry Soul" was first conceived back in 2007 when I was 18, while living in Ashland after a failed attempt at going to college. I had spent the better part of 6 months working on writing my own original music and I happened upon this tune during the depths of being ill with mono in March. I first recorded this song on my laptop with a headset microphone and Sonor Home Studio. I put it on Myspace and shared it with many of my friends at the time, getting positive praise from my idol and now friend Sondre Lerche and his trusty producer Kato Ådland. It failed to become a true studio recording until 2008 when I teamed up with Ryan Rusch in the studio and did a much better recording featuring my good friend Heidi Howes. However, it failed to be released on any album, so it was relegated to the demo pile. After a few more years, I finally got the courage to try it again as a much more ambitious idea.

This track was recorded in conjunction with a music video shoot and all of the parts were captured live in one full take and all performed by myself. The session was on March 23rd, 2013 at The Weight Room studio owned and operated by Ryan Rusch with video recorded by Kjell Kvanbeck. It was our first attempt at doing a recording in such a way and we were very pleased with the outcome! I hope you will enjoy this song for many years to come. It is unique. Here is the video:

lyrics

Quietly I sing in tune away from conscious ears; their criticism put in to a thoughtless dream.
A waking silence follows near to what I capture, it's not the way it should have been.
Oh, oh, oh, it's so mysterious and vague. No traces of our minds seem to exist anymore.
This could be the end of what we've done, or maybe it's just our beginning.

Stop right there! Don't go any further.
The edge is not a place for you or me.
Hold me tight, before I begin to fall.
I wonder if we can stay like this? (If we can stay like this...)

An emptiness consumes my dreams; it vanishes with the wind
and blows towards the sea.
How cruel can life be? How hopeless must I feel before I am allowed to be free?
Maybe I'm fooling; maybe I'm stuck.
Whatever it may be I won't allow it to become my fate!

Hold me back! Although I am stable, I am capable of falling fast.
Oh, fate has been so harsh!
I wonder if you were meant to save me?

Please stay true. Give a sign that you won't leave.
All these words, were only meant for you...
I hope one day you'll want to stay with me.

Stop right there! Don't go any further!
The edge is not a place for you or me.
Hold me tight before I begin to fall.
I wonder if we can stay like this?

Pull me back!
Pull me back! Oh, pull me back!
